Courtney Courtyard

This north-facing courtyard, enclosed by high brick walls, provides a tranquil green sanctuary from the immediate inner-city streetscape. Architectural lines are softened by lush plantings and mixed materials, creating a compact, abundant garden for the client to savour some of life's joys: fresh herbs, sunshine and peaceful moments.

The client's garden retreat shows how a small, under-used area can be transformed into an accessible, versatile and inspiring outdoor space, bringing positive change to the client's life, including daily garden use, flexible entertaining and late-afternoon sun-baking. 

The client is very happy with the outcome, finding it both extremely functional and life-enhancing – as the garden's beautiful plants blossom, they attract a steady hum of bees, butterflies and birds. Planting has been selected to envelop the courtyard as it matures, making it productive and manageable, but also a private and enchanting space to enjoy for years ahead.
